This post is a part of the Early Stage Climate Startup series from Climafix 2024

Highlights

  • Zero-emission, hydrogen-fueled Micro Gas Turbines as an alternative to diesel generators.
  • 34% lighter, has 42% lower operating costs, and offering 3X longer operational life.

1. Value Proposition

  • Fuel Flexibility: Hycosy’s Micro Gas Turbines (MGTs) are designed to run on 100% hydrogen. Operating costs are 42% lower than diesel generators.
  • Compact and Lightweight: Hycosys MGTs have 35% less volume and 34% lower weight, making them easier to install and maintain.

2. Pain Points

  • Emissions: Diesel generators pollute whereas hydrogen MGTs emit only water vapour.
  • Grid Stability Issues: Solar and wind energy resources can be intermittent due to the variability, for backup power hydrogen MGTs can be quicker & more efficient than diesel gensets.

3. Climate Impact

  • Hybrid Power Generation: Integrated heat recovery systems reduce energy waste and dependence on the grid.

4. Current & Future Target Segments

  • Current Target Segments: Industries & businesses that are already hydrogen producers or users, fertilizer manufacturers, food & process Industries, metals, mining, construction, telecom operators, and residential housing societies.
  • Future Target Segments: Expanding product range to include hydrogen-powered propulsion systems for UAVs and heavy-duty vehicles.

5. USP

  • Hycosy’s MGTs are more fuel-flexible, lighter, compact, and have a longer operational lifespan.

6. Team Profiles

  • Dr. Tapish Agarwal (Co-founder & CEO): He brings over a decade of specialized experience in gas turbine design. His notable contributions include the development of a laser ignition system for helicopter engines, a project sponsored by SAFRAN in France. He has also led multiple high-impact projects, such as the Advanced LP Turbine Development in collaboration with AFRL, Purdue, and Technion.
  • Ugandhar Reddy (Co-founder & CTO): An expert in hydrogen combustion dynamics with over 15 years of experience in the aerospace industry. He has held key roles at GE Aviation and Reaction Engines UK, where he worked on the SABRE program, a pioneering hydrogen-powered propulsion system.
