V2X communication refers to the exchange of information between vehicles, infrastructure, and other entities using wireless technologies like cellular networks, Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC), or Wi-Fi. V2X enables vehicles to “talk” to each other, to traffic signals, to pedestrians, and even to smart grids, enhancing situational awareness, coordinating actions, and optimizing the overall mobility experience.
V2X technology is beginning to be commercially implemented in several regions. Pilot projects are underway in the United States, Europe, and Asia to test the feasibility and benefits of V2X applications, including safety warnings, traffic management, and connected infrastructure. Major automakers, including Ford, Toyota, and BMW, are incorporating V2X communication into their new vehicles. The widespread adoption of V2X is expected to accelerate in the coming years as technology matures and regulations are established.
