As a run-up to CLINCH June 2024 contest by CLIMAFIX.
We provide a daily challenge to all the participants of CLINCH June 2024, in the run-up to the June 2024 edition. The challenge is usually a brief question around climate action, to which the contestants need to provide a brief but well-thought-out answer.
The winner for that day will be given the Climate Brain title for the day.
The challenge for May 27 was:
Assume you are the Prime Minister of India. What policy innovation would you bring in to significantly increase the number of people who use public transport instead of cars?
About 45 participants answered – thank you to every one of you!
The Climate Brain Runner-up for May 27 is:
Ankur Ranjan Chanda – from Girijananda Chowdhury University
His answer:
“If I was the PM of India I would introduce a system where individuals earn credits for using public transport, which can be redeemed for discounts on other services or products. Individuals earn credits for each trip taken on public transport, with higher credits awarded for longer distances or during peak hours to encourage ridership. Credits can be redeemed for discounts on a wide range of products and services from partner businesses, such as groceries, entertainment, utilities bills, etc. The program would be integrated with smart cards and mobile apps to make earning and redeeming credits seamless for commuters. Businesses would be incentivized to participate through tax breaks and increased foot traffic to their stores and websites.”
Congrats Ankur, and may you scale greater heights.
